Lyrics

Shotgun

so you married a shotgun
what made you think it would never fire?
on the wedding day it was cocked and loaded

waiting for an excuse to blow

and now the child of this grave union
is wailing in your hands
and your arms are full of slug-holes
and your legs too weak to stand
so you turn into a statue
you learn to stand like stone
and you lie under the covers and pretend that you're alone

and your shotgun is loaded all the time
when he's full he shoots
and you feel like an empty bottle
someday you will shatter

you know it's nobody's fault but yours
but how can you get out?
you signed the contract, made the vow, now you're paying
and you wonder where you'll find
the chance to take or the chance to hide
and your baby's cries are ringing in your ears
as you count the years

and your shotgun is loaded all the time
when he's full he shoots
and you feel like an empty bottle
someday you will shatter

and who will sweep up the pieces?
