Lyrics

Blue Collar

I can't afford to live where I grew up
my family is here and my memories
but it costs too much to live here so I have to leave
I'm a blue collar man with a blue collar plan
but my kind of work is obsolete

I work all the time but I'm still poor
up at down and out the door
I work at least as hard as my father did
but these blue collar hands can't make no demands
'cause my kind of work is obsolete

so I'm flying alone
forced to face each day on my own
missing the ones I love who I'll rarely see
I'm supposed to feel free but I'm just lonely

I thought I'd buy myself a piece of land
but the taxes here made me change my plans
so I pay the landlord one more time
my blue collar truck is packed with all my stuff
is it me or this town that is obsolete?

I heard that there are jobs away down south
I'm off to Carolina to find out
when I arrive what will I find?
Blue collar man with a blue collar plan
How can a man be obsolete?

so I'm flying alone
forced to face each day on my own
missing the ones I love who I'll rarely see
I'm supposed to feel free but I'm just lonely

Five long years have gone by
and I'm home from Carolina
living in the basement of my dad
blue collar dreams, I watch them on TV
have another beer and go to sleep
